The Bentinck of Woodend is a sentimental favourite amongst the local residents of Woodend and has undergone a number of changes since being built. The Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows built a convalescent
home in Woodend in 1939 for members and staff of Machester Unity. Marcus
Barlow, the society’s architect designed the complex, which was opened
on the 3rd May 1941. The order sold the property in 1978 and it continued
under a tripartite ownership as the Bentinck Private Hotel.
The Future
In January 2005, The Bentinck of Woodend was purchased by a Melbourne
based organisation who have big dreams in transforming The
Bentinck into a boutique venue in the Macedon Ranges region for corporate conferences, weddings and functions.
